Private Art Lessons

Private Art Lessons

Private Art Lessons are my quiet invitation for you to sit down at the easel and finally give your creativity the time it has been asking for. In these one-on-one sessions, I shape every lesson around you-your pace, your questions, your hopes for what you want your art to become.

After almost forty years of teaching painting to everyone from kindergarten children to university students and adults, I have learned that no two learners are alike. Some arrive nervously, sure they "can't draw a straight line." Others come with a stack of half-finished canvases, longing to move beyond the same habits. Whether you are a complete beginner, a returning artist, or a senior rediscovering an old love, I meet you exactly where you are.

You can choose to focus on watercolor, oil, acrylic, or mixed media, or to explore them in turn as your confidence grows. Together, we will look at color, light, and composition in ways that make sense to you, not in intimidating art-school language. I will demonstrate right beside you, then gently guide your hand as you try techniques on your own, offering clear, practical feedback that feels more like a conversation than a critique.

Because the lessons are private, we can also make room for what is happening in your life. Many of my students use painting as a way to walk through grief, retirement, or big transitions. If you wish, I will help you turn those experiences into rich, expressive work that feels honest and healing.

Sessions are available online or, when possible, in person in Lexington, South Carolina by appointment. If you have been whispering to yourself, "One day, I'll learn to paint," consider this your gentle nudge. You bring your curiosity, and I will bring decades of experience, a kind eye, and a steady hand beside you.
